This has been edited. Best bit of horror/action in the film has been edited out. Avoid this version. Real shame. Waste of time

Excellent !!! don't know why exactly but these type of films from late 40's the 50's and early 60's seem more scary than the modern gorefests, probably thet are more psychological and your own imagination fills in the blanks. Has been said nothing will scare you more than your own "mind"
Would have liked to see the cut scenes, they sound like to be the icing on the cake!!
Oh and as i said loved it!!!!!!!

At about 51 minutes into the movie, the screen goes black for over a minute. (wonder if anything happens during that minute, because it was right as a scene change) I downloaded the Ogg file, then the 3GB mpg to see if it had the same flaw (it does)
Other than that, not bad for a Frankenstein ripoff. :-)

Subject: Doctor of the Year
He just smiles through the pain! You gotta love this guy!
After a traffic accident, he pulls the throbbing still alive head of his dead fiance out of the flaming wreckage and wraps it in his sports coat and runs to his evil laboratory at his evil mansion.
His plan is not a selfish one, oh no... not our hero. He plans to keep her head alive until fitting body can be found to go with it.
What better place to look for a new body to graft to your dead fiance's head than the skankiest strip clubs and lowest beer dives in the free world????? (Now days you would be seeing Britney Spears and Paris Hilton jumping out of limos flashing crotch shots as he walked in the door.)
He is so noble, he won't just take any woman's body. He shows that he still does value the Hippoctatic Oath... he choses a girl who in his mind has no reason whatsoever to live with the head she has. Why???? She has a scar on her face! Oh, you will cry tears of compassion when he decides to end this poor creature's suffering. AND don't forget, he is helping us with our suffering, too... it is really rough on all us regular folks to look at ugly people.
So what if it means she has to die to make it happen!! I don't care. Do you????
And, who is that in the closet? Could it be Tom Cruise trying his best to "come out"????
Watch and see for yourself!

Subject: A very good cinematic study
Subject: A very good cinematic study
This movie makes great use of camera angles and editing to produce very effective visions of a severed head living in a tray on a table. The detail of the 'hookups' to the head are very precise, and if you look carefully you can see some tiny 'infusions' constantly going into her. They even have a hose for oxygen in the back. Virginia Leith is a beautiful actress, and her sensuality in the opening scenes is great. Unfortunately for this film, the director, Joseph Green, is the king of overacting and cuts that are waaaaaay too long! In the opening scene, where the doctor is going to open the chest of the patient, he uses that knife like he can't figure where to start cutting. Every scene seems like it needs to end about two minutes sooner. But, it is a great exercise for observation in the way it was photographed and still very watchable. Enjoy!

I honestly thought the movie had some fine merits.
As a teaching tool, it would be useful for camera angle, editing, plot and actors/actresses to be could watch this.
However, the dark side in me appears as I thought of some equivalent actors that could have watched this movie in their early acting careers...The Baldwins could have benefited from this movie.

Subject: Fine Cheese!
Subject: Fine Cheese!
DO NOT watch this movie if you don't enjoy cheesy movies! If you choose to do so anyway, do not complain about this movie being cheesy. That's like eating cheese and then complaining that it doesn't taste like a hamburger. This isn't a hamburger. This is cheese.
But, what great cheese - I laughed quite a bit! This movie's got everything; a monster, a creepy house, a beauty pageant, wrestling women, a secret laboratory, and a head without a body!
There seems to be two copies posted on the archive. The other version seems to only has 1 audio channel - very annoying to only hear through one earphone. However, that version does have the "Let me die! Let me die!" at the very beginning, which is great for a laugh. I do not know if other differences exist.

Shocking movie, and I don't mean in terms of horror, but in overall quality, in every respect.
The plot opened straight away into the "horror" element. Within 2 minutes, the viewer could predict what was going to happen. No lead in, no suspense, no mystery. Then the story developed too fast.
Directing and cinematography mediocre. Scenes were not fully developed or exploited before moving onto the next scene. The car crash and leadup seemed so "studio" based.
Acting was poor.
If Shelley was alive, a suit of plagiarism could be filed. Frankenstein would have been far preferrable to this poor imitation.
Unfortunately I can't rate this less than one star. I would if I could.

This movie is amazing. Its got everything a b movie lvoer should have.
The radicoulsly awsome stupid script, great over acted scenes, old fashioned suspense and drama. For me this one is a cult, it has some great liens in it ie "I've been working on somethign like this for weeks!".
Anyways, a true classic, this is what old b movie horror is all about - as comic as it is, it still scares the shit out of you :D

I nearly downloaded this.
Too bad those scenes were cut, I really don't see the reason for it...but thanks again for letting us know. I guess I'll stick to my MST3K version.
1 star because there's not a zero star option.

This is one of my favorite movies. I saw it on TV when I was a little kid and it pleasantly traumatized me.
However, this is not the complete version. The violent scenes are either severely truncated or removed, and the print itself is pretty choppy in places. The payoff at the end, involving a neck being ripped out with glistening closeups of the tattered flesh, is completely gone. The whole movie leads up to that shot - and then it isn't there. There's a big obvious film splice and the music jumps.
Local TV stations in the 1960s and 1970s showed the movie intact. The commercial releases of this film vary in completeness - some have the blood'n'guts, some don't, some have part of it. I think MST3k's version retained the gore scenes.
The transfer of the version here is great, and the image quality is excellent - but I give this three stars rather than five because of the missing money shots.

This horror film is about a doctor who must save his girlfriend after a terrible auto accident. However, he can only manage to save her head. He keeps it (her) alive in a pan in his laboratory. Then it's off to a beauty pageant to search for replacement bodies!
Be sure to watch the MST3K treatment of this film.
